Colombia Single Origin Coffee: Tasting Notes & Brew Guide
Why Colombia Produces Some of the World’s Best Coffee
Colombia’s position on the equator, combined with its diverse altitude, consistent rainfall, and volcanic soil, creates near-perfect conditions for coffee cultivation. The country’s steep Andean slopes slow the maturation of coffee cherries, allowing sugars and aromatic compounds to develop fully — the result is a naturally complex, balanced bean that’s beloved by specialty roasters worldwide.
Where Our Colombia Single Origin Is Grown
Our Colombia Single Origin is sourced from small-lot farms in the high-altitude growing regions — typically above 1,600 metres above sea level. At this elevation, cooler temperatures slow cherry development, concentrating the natural sweetness that Colombia is famous for. The beans are washed-processed, which produces a cleaner, brighter cup compared to natural processing.
Tasting Notes
Here’s what to expect in your cup:
- Sweetness: Rich caramel and brown sugar — prominent and approachable without being cloying
- Acidity: Gentle, citrus-tinged brightness — think orange zest rather than sharp lemon
- Body: Medium to full, silky and smooth
- Finish: Clean and lingering, with a subtle nutty warmth
It’s a crowd-pleaser and a gateway origin — accessible enough for everyday drinking, nuanced enough to reward attention.
How to Brew It
Colombia’s balanced profile makes it incredibly versatile — it shines across multiple brew methods:
Pour-Over (Recommended)
Use a medium-fine grind, 92–94°C water, and a 1:15 ratio. The washed processing and natural sweetness come through beautifully in a V60 or Chemex. Expect the caramel notes to open up as the cup cools.
AeroPress
A medium grind with a 2-minute steep produces a concentrated, syrupy cup — ideal if you want a bolder, espresso-adjacent experience without a machine.
Cafetière / French Press
Use a coarse grind and a 4-minute steep. The full-immersion method brings out the body of the Colombia beautifully — you’ll get a rich, warming brew with more texture.
Espresso
As a single-origin espresso, our Colombia rewards patience with dialling in. Aim for a 1:2 ratio in 28–32 seconds. Expect a sweet, citrus-edged shot — exceptional as a long black or flat white.
Storage Tips
Store your beans in an airtight container away from direct sunlight. For peak flavour, use within 2–4 weeks of the roast date. Avoid the fridge — condensation is the enemy of fresh coffee.
